On Sunday, after we spent time in the suburbs with James' family, we headed back to the city to see friends. We had dinner and drinks and then came back to our place to watch Decasia. James and I had watched the first 15 minutes a few nights prior, and I was excited to show our friends. It came out in 2002, but for some reason we were under the impression it was done in the 70s. You'd think someone would have tackled this concept way before 2002. Taken from imdb.com:

A meditation on the human quest to transcend physicality, constructed from decaying archival footage and set to an original symphonic score.. Nearly all the clips incorporated into this film are from footage that has been damaged due to poor storage, neglect, or ravaged by time and the elements. Nothing was done to accelerate the decomposition process.

I love old films so it is right up my alley. The score is totally intense and perhaps at times a bit much, but definitely adds to the footage - It's honestly one of the spookiest things I have ever viewed. Despite that you are watching each film's demise and disintegration, each image is like a ghost emerging from your screen. It's incredibly haunting. If any of you choose to watch it, let me know what you think!

  1. Wow! This was a creepy film. Taylor recommended it to me and then would not watch it again. I think he wanted to avoid all the weirdness this movie gives off.
I really liked the style. Seeing all the clips that were once beautiful and now falling apart made me feel like all good things were coming to an end..... not very uplifting but I would recommend it.
