October Viewing

We're still missing Catapult around here..
..but I have some things I want to share with you all. The months for me have just been flying by since mid-Summer! I guess it feels right that it's Halloween-time, but I know Thanksgiving will be here in the blink of an eye. I wanted to share with you some October appropriate movies that you might enjoy. Not all that scary..instead of scary they are probably creepy..and if they aren't creepy they just have an October mood to them..and then we have the Don Knotts movie for good measure haha. Here we go..

Chaney36

Lon Chaney

A good fit for October/Halloween..I'd suggest picking up The Lon Chaney Collection which features The Ace of Hearts, Laugh Clown Laugh (shown above), and The Unknown. Another pick, perhaps even more suited for Halloween watching is London After Midnight. All silent films..which allows your ears to make sure nothing is sneaking up behind while watching, duh!

Decasia: The State of Decay

I posted about this in July..click here to read that post. Decasia would be perfect to cozy up and watch with the lights out. It's really pretty, but like I said before, very spooky.

Valerie and Her Week of Wonders

A pretty and very creepy Czech film from 1970, based on the 1932 novel by Vítězslav Nezval (I've only started to read this and am amused by how easy a read it is, like pulp). Actually if you can't pick this up in time for Halloween, a friend of mine just told me last night about this thing going around called The Valerie Project which features the film with a live orchestra..It's coming to Chicago on Thursday November 8, and we are planning to go..let me know if you are, too! Click here to read more about the film.

Requiem

Last October, James and I caught a special showing of this film through Comcast OnDemand while it was simultaneously debuting at film festivals (a pretty cool feature for once)..and I liked it a lot. It's based on the real-life of Anneliese Michel, who also inspired The Exorcism of Emily Rose, which I have never seen. ...The soundtrack is good..and though I guess it's not very spooky, it's a visually pleasing movie (as you can see I couldn't choose which screen shot to use haha), and is perfect for October.

The Ghost and Mr. Chicken

Last but certainly not least, we have Don Knotts in The Ghost and Mr. Chicken. Do I really need to convince you to watch this one? Enjoy the trailer haha..

What are your Halloween suggestions???

  1. Those movies look so good. I really want to see Valerie and Her Week of Wonders, but it looks like it will give me nightmares.

One of my favourite scary/creepy movies is called The Changeling. It's a Canadian movie starring George C. Scott.

When I was about three or four I saw snippets of Watcher in the Woods and it scared me so much I cried!

  2. haha..I understand..but I think, it's not as scary as it looks..Also it is subtitled, and to me, that takes off some of the edge..maybe? haha

Ok I had to look up the Changeling..I think I have seen part of that on television..but I don't remember any of the scary parts so I must not have seen it all. What is this rated?

And I am pretty sure I have never seen Watcher in the Woods..I'm sure it would have scared me too! ..I remember when I saw Labyrinth..I was like..7 I think..I was at a friend's house so I probably only got to see like the first hour at the most..It scared me to no end haha. I couldn't get past the fact that they actually had the baby stolen..It was just a baby! Anyway, that wasn't even about ghosts haha..
